HISTORY OF THE CASTLE
Until 1848, the Hotel Schloss Gabelhofen was not only the residence of a mainly aristocratic family, it was also the seat of a manorial system and its own dairy farm and, as such, it was an important administrative, economic and court authority for the district.
The first written record associated with this house dates back to 1443. During this period, this building bore the name Hof Riegersdorf under the Liechtenstein rulership close to Judenburg.
