7 highlights at the DTM race weekend at the Red Bull Ring

Crucial duels, prominent guest starters, legendary racing cars and unique backstage visits – DTM’s visit to Spielberg has a lot up its sleeve. What is going to happen from 21 to 23 September at the Red Bull Ring?

The highlights at a glance:

1.) It will be about who crowns himself the king of DTM in 2018

The race at the Red Bull Ring could decide who will become the DTM champion 2018. Four races before the end of the season, the Mercedes-Benz drivers look like they are going to decide the matter among themselves: Gary Paffett has 206 points, Paul Di Resta 204 while René Rast holds third place 57 points behind. And yet: The Audi driver won the last two races at the Nürburgring in astonishing style. His motto is “I have no chances so I will seize it.”

  • Race 1: Saturday, 13.30 – 14.28 + 1 lap
  • Race 2: Sunday, 13.30 – 14.28 + 1 lap

2.) For the first time, fans have access to the grid

A first at the Red Bull Ring: For the first time in DTM’s history, fans (provided they have a paddock ticket) are allowed to experience the grid up close. It will be open on both Saturday and Sunday for 40 minutes, giving the DTM’s motto “Loud. Close. Personal.” a new meaning. When?

  • Saturday, 12.35 – 13.15
  • Sunday, 12.35 – 13.15

3.) Josh. comes armed with Cordula Grün

The summer hit of 2018 is ‘made in Austria’: Josh.’s song Cordula Grün has conquered the billboard charts and the DTM brings him to the Red Bull Ring – he will perform live and in colour on the DTM stage.

  • Saturday, starting at 17.30

4.) Three Austrians with a chance to win at home

Motorsport ‘made in Austria’ is taking off in a big way. A whopping total of three great talents from the country in the heart of Europe will fight for glory on the Red Bull Ring this weekend. Philipp Eng (BMW) and Lucas Auer (Mercedes) will try to take home as many points as possible in the DTM, Ferdinand Habsburg will take to the track in the FIA Formula 3 series.

5.) Sébastien Ogier is determined to cause a stir

The Frenchman is a trained ski instructor but it was on four wheels that he became a legend: Sébastien Ogier has won the World Rally Championship and unbelievable five times. In Spielberg, he will enter unknown terrain, switch the gravel for asphalt and participate in the DTM race as a guests starter. What’s his expectation? “The only thing I can do is surprise – even myself.” BMW racer Philipp Eng is convinced that “he will cause a stir!”

6.) VW and Mercedes fight for the top spot in F3

Winning 3 races in a row, Mick Schumacher (Team Prema, Mercedes) has made the series exciting again. The racer with the famous father is thus only three points behind the overall leader Daniel Ticktum (Team Motopark/VW). The FIA Formula 3 season has not been this exciting in years...
