A strong lineup for the IDM at Spielberg

Between 2011 and 2013 the IDM (“Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaft” or “International German Championship”) has been a fixture at the then still young Red Bull Ring. In 2020 this popular racing series returns to Spielberg from 22 to 24 May, providing a second must-see for fans of two-wheeled motorsport besides MotoGP. Riders will battle for championship points in seven categories from 1000 cc superbikes to sidecars. Several Austrians can be found on the grid and the represented brands are like music to the ears of true bikers: BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha!

Former MotoGP rider Jonas Folger starts in IDM

Series manager Normann Broy says: “We are coming to Styria with the strongest IDM lineup in ages!” This is made sure by the fact that former MotoGP rider Jonas Folger signed up for the IDM’s premier class, the Superbike 1000 category. On his Yamaha cranking out more than 200 bhp, the 26-year-old top rider from Mühldorf am Inn in the employ of the newly formed Team Bonovo action by MGM Racing challenges two-time IDM champion Illya Mikhalchik who will once again line up with a BMW from the EGS-alpha-Van Zon-BMW team.

Sidecars & captivating support series

Exhilarating top-level racing will also be provided by the IDM’s sidecar teams. Heralded by seven-time world champion Tim Reeves and his co-rider Mark Wilkes the field of ultra-low racing machines always draw huge crowds. Furthermore, thrilling support series such as the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU Cup, the BMW Motorrad BoxerCup and the Superstock 1000 Cup will make for two-wheeled action of the highest order.
