#AustrianGP Day 2: Dovizioso and Márquez swap fastest times on thrilling opening day

An action-packed first day of MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring as the first two free practice sessions in each class were run on the circuit. Off track, there was more action with autograph sessions, stunt shows, music and the opening of “Spielberg MotoGP Bike City”.

First Two Free Practice Session

“Honda or Ducati?” There was no clear answer to that question during the first free practice sessions of the Austrian MotoGP as Andrea Dovizioso topped FP1 posting a 1:24.033 with Marc Márquez in second (1:24.218) and Maverick Viñales in third (1:24.280).

Marc Márquez went quickest in FP2 setting the fastest time of the day with 1:23.916 minutes – leading the way in front of Viñales (1:23.982) and Takaaki Nakagami (1:24.071). Dovizioso crashed in the session and had to settle ninth in the end, while team-mate Danilo Petrucci only was able to pull out the seventh quickest time of the day. Miguel Oliveira shone on his KTM earning sixth in the second free practice in a time of 1:24.326 minutes.

MotoGP up close: On track and in the “Spielberg MotoGP Bike City”

The flag had only just signalled the end of the on-track sessions when the Moto2, Moto3 and MotoGP riders enjoyed the signing sessions together with the fans. Attending riders (among others) were superstars Marc Marquez, Stefan Bradl, Valentino Rossi, Maverick Vinales, Andrea Dovizioso and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team riders Pol Espargaro and Johann Zarco.
