The long-awaited F1 season opener at the Red Bull Ring is taking shape. The first pair of free practice sessions have been completed as the cars finally returned to racing. Red Bull motorsport adviser Dr Helmut Marko says: “We are delighted that the cars are on the track, and we are all looking forward to the weekend now! Together with Red Bull, Projekt Spielberg has done great work in organising the event. We are still a little nervous, of course, but everything seems to be going the right way.”
Lewis Hamilton dominated both of the free practice sessions at Spielberg, ahead of his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen in the RB16 as well as Sergio Perez (Racing Point) were within sight of Hamilton. Things continue on Saturday, with qualifying among the items on the schedule.
