In addition to Formula One, there are three more race series making up the spectacle of motorsport in Spielberg this weekend. Get up to speed right here.
The Formula One weekend at the Red Bull Ring has started, the pit boxes are set up and the first press conference has been held. And once the Formula One cars have finished on track, it’s the turn of the teams in the feeder series to get a taste of glory. Here’s a quick summary of all the motorsports action at the #AustrianGP.
Spielberg hosts the fifth round of the Formula Two season, the series that is one step down from Formula One. There should be plenty of action in store because three new drivers have entered the series prior to the Austrian weekend and all the drivers have picked up points so far this season. Charles Leclerc from Monaco is the current series leader with a total of 122 points. The Formula 2 is the proving ground for future world champions – ask former champs Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
The GP3 series is also part of the F1 weekend. The 3.4-litre V4 engines and Pirelli-equipped teams are having their second race of the season at the Red Bull Ring.
Key fact: New regulations for 2017 mean that all GP3 cars are now using a Drag Reduction System to lower drag and increase the chances of overtaking.
Did you know: Giuliano Alesi is competing in the GP3 races while his dad Jean Alesi will be taking part in the Legends Parade on historic Le Mans cars. Can Junior finish ahead of the senior?
The Porsche series is celebrating its 25th aniversary this year. First held in 1993, it is now an integral part of the Formula One World Championship weekend. Spielberg hosts the third round of the season with a field made up of 28 drivers from 18 different countries.
Surprise: Austrian Christoph Huber of Huber Racing is the youngest team boss in the series. Can he claim a home win this weekend?
