#Austrian GP – Day 1: The motorsport festival is go!

Interesting insights behind the scenes at the Public Pit Lane Walk and an exciting pre-event press conference featuring the stars of MotoGP: This was day one.

Thursday afternoon at the Red Bull Ring: Thousands of fans took advantage of the Public Pitlane Walk to take a look behind the scenes at the world of MotoGP to observe their final preparations for the weekend ahead. The top teams opened their garage doors and rolled their bikes into the pit lane to give them a function check. In the thick of it all, super star Valentino Rossi made his fans happy when he appeared for autographs and selfies.

Can anyone dethrone Ducati?

Tomorrow the first free practice sessions are set to go ahead, and in the pre-event press conference the stars of MotoGP gave their thoughts about the 11th round of this year’s championship. Amongst those were the current top three of the world championship – Marc Márquez, Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso, as well as Jorge Lorenzo and Bradley Smith and Moto2 rider Miguel Oliveira.

The Ducati riders are cautiously optimistic about Sunday’s race: “After Brno we’ve brought a lot of confidence with us to Austria. It is a good track for us but I am convinced Marc will be strong and up at the sharp end. It will be tight, for sure”, said Andrea Dovizioso, who crowned himself king of Spielberg in 2017. His team mate Jorge Lorenzo said: “We’ve taken a big step forward over the past few weeks. To catch Marc in the championship is a big task but I’ll take it race by race.”

World Champion Marc Márquez was reserved at the conference: “This week we were able to try a lot of things and turned on some screws to find the best way to challenge the Ducatis. Of course we want to win here at the Red Bull Ring, but it will be a tough task. I’d say our goal has to be a place on the podium.”

Rossi trying to find the optimum

Valentino Rossi will “give his all”, 22 years after his first Red Bull Ring podium. “I remember it quite well – it was very cold and a hard fight until the end – but at the end one of the best moments of my career.” Concerning the race on Sunday, the Italian said: “We have always struggled with performance here, so we need to try to find the optimum in all areas to be able to stay with them.”

Friday: Start your engines!

At 9:00 am sharp the track belongs to the riders of MotoGP, Moto3 and Moto2. The riders of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the ADAC Junior Cup feeder series will also be in action for the first time.

Following their practice sessions, riders will make themselves available for selfies and autographs at the “Spielberg MotoGP Bike City” between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. From 3:15 pm onwards, the same location will also see stunt-shows, live music and DJs playing the latest tunes.
