The “How-to-arrive” guide for the MotoGP weekend

Fans from all over the world are on their way to Spielberg to experience the biggest motorsport event of the year this weekend. To ensure a stress-free start to the Grand Prix weekend, your journey should be well planned and you should be on the road as early as possible.

All roads lead to Spielberg

Make sure you check your route prior to your departure, so you’ll arrive stress-free! The Ö3 radio station provides regular and detailed information about the current traffic situation around the Red Bull Ring. In addition, Project Spielberg recommends that you try to arrive before 7:30 am, especially from Friday onwards. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday arrival is possible for campers all day, and on Saturday until 9:00 am.

Most of Austria’s major arterial roads are free-flowing on the MotoGP weekend, and you can find suggested routes from all four cardinal directions here.

For real bikers, there are plenty of suitable alternatives to the highways: from the North, you can ride via Triebener Tauern or from the South via the Gaberl. Please follow the instructions of our stewards when arriving on site. Depending on the colour of your ticket, you will be guided to your respective parking lot. Be sure to download the Spielberg  mobile App so you can take advantage of the numerous benefits upon arrival. For example, users can calculate the best route to the Red Bull Ring and use the “Find my Car” function to help you find your car or bike easily when it’s time to leave. Download the Spielberg App here.

To optimise arrival for everyone, campers will be guided via LED road signs on the S36. If you’re camping “pink”, “green”, “purple”, “yellow” or “orange” it’s best use the Knittelfeld West exit. Those camping “blue” and “red” should exit the motorway at Zeltweg West. For Friday the recommended arrival time is before 10:00 am, and on Saturday before 9:00 am. Camper departure is possible on Sunday night from 8:00 pm. More information can be found here.

Public transport to the Red Bull Ring

If you are travelling by train you should alight at the Knittelfeld station. Further information about connections from Graz, Linz, Vienna, Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Villach can be found here. Postbus and Eventbus are offering coaches from all over Austria and there are free shuttle busses from the Knittelfeld train station and from the bus station at Judenburg (Postgasse) bringing you safe and sound to the Red Bull Ring. The free shuttle busses operate from Friday to Sunday between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. Friday and Saturday there will be a Night Shuttle operating between 8:00 pm and midnight.

Take your push bike

For fans living in the region we recommend you ride your bicycle. There are also two Park & Ride facilities that would also suit travellers who have brought their bike with their vehicles. The first is Großlobming (7,3 km away, near Schlossweg 19, 8734 Großlobming) and the second is at Weißkirchen (9,7 km away, B77, Judenburgerstraße 32, 8741 Weißkirchen). There will be a special parking lot for bicycles close to the track.

Arrival via aircraft is also possible thanks to the Hinterstoisser airfield in Zeltweg, just 5km (ca. 5 min) away from the Red Bull Ring. For more information, click here.
