Just one more day until the race of the year, the NeroGiardini Motorcycle Grand Prix of Austria. Practice sessions have been ridden, Qualifying positions are settled, riders and fans are 'ready to rumble'!
Marc Márquez dominated the session once again and earned his 70th Grand Prix pole position, his fifth of 2017 and third in a row this season. Andrea Dovizioso was just fractions of a second behind, followed by Jorge Lorenzo. So, the big question prior to Sunday's race: Honda or Ducati? Or maybe even Yamaha?
Valentino Rossi struggled on Saturday: His team mate Maverick Viñales, fellow Yamaha rider Johann Zarco, as Danilo Petrucci (Ducati) pushed the Doctor back to the third row of the grid. But for sure the "Valentino Rossi grandstand" will give everything to push their idol from P7 on the grid to the leading group. The Doctor will start the race on the same row as Dani Pedrosa (Honda) and Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda). KTM riders Pol Espargaró and Mika Kallio, starting by way of a wild card, begin the race from row 6.
The riders of Moto2 and Moto3, as well as the feeder series of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the ADAC Junior Cup were also on track this Saturday. The Moto2 Pole went to Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team), while in Moto3 it went to Gabriel Rodrigo (KTM). In Moto3, Upper Austrian Max Kofler will celebrate his Grand Prix debut with a wildcard entry at his home race, entering the battle from 31st position. In Qualifying he improved his time from training by a few seconds to finish with a time of 1:38,697.
Spielberg knows how to celebrate (motorbike) parties! The red-white-red euphoria reached its climax on Saturday, when KTM riders Pol Espargaró, Bradley Smith and Mika Kallio entered the stage of the Spielberg MotoGP Fan Village to greet their fans, be on site for some Selfies and sign autographs. A highlight for all fans of the orange squad: a KTM motorbike helmet was autographed by the team and you have the chance to win it here.
As part of the FMX show, the Swedish snowmobile pilot Daniel Bodin drew loud cheers from the audience with incredible backflips! Fans rocked the party stage with a total of 6 cover bands and live music in the beer tent, and danced the night away to the fat beats of DJ acts in the party tent. There is a magnificent atmosphere all around Spielberg and the motorsport fans are ready for the MotoGP Showdown on Sunday!
Two days flat out on and off the track – with just one target in sight: The NeroGiardini Motorcycle Grand Prix of Austria. After the races for the Moto3 (11 o'clock) and Moto2 (12:20), the national anthem will be sung at 13:51 and at 1400 the race of the MotoGP will roar into action. After that, it’s not over: The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race starts at 15:30, and finally the ADAC Junior Cup at 16:25. A brilliant race day awaits the fans at Spielberg on Sunday!
