2015 Motorsport Festival starts in Spielberg

The drivers and teams of the elite racing series arrived in Spielberg on Thursday. The entire field of drivers for the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2015 is therefore assembled at the Red Bull Ring. Thousands of visitors came for the start of the festival of motorsport to see the F1 cars closer than ever before in the pit lane. In the F1 Village, seven teams took the time to meet their fans in autograph sessions. The excitement is rising in the Murtal valley – with the top-class racing action to begin on Friday in the form of practice sessions and one qualifying session. The first press conference of the weekend meanwhile saw Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Nico Hülkenberg talk about their expectations of the eighth race of the season in Austria.

Close – closer – Public Pit Lane Walk

Thousands of motorsport fans did not want to miss out on the first highlights of this year’s Austrian F1 weekend. Holders of three-day passes were given a rare glance into the pits on Thursday in the Public Pit Lane Walk, where they could see the work of the teams up close and take all kinds of souvenir photos of the famous cars. The F1 Village also opened its gates on Thursday. Up to and including Sunday, visitors to the Red Bull Ring’s west loop will be able to enjoy a comprehensive side programme. An exhibition of historic cars from the turbo era of the 1980s; cars in which F1 history was made, is sure to excite all motorsport fans. Among the cars available to see are the McLaren MP4 (1984) driven by Niki Lauda, the Ferrari F1-87/88c (1988) from Gerhard Berger and the 1986 Lotus 98T from Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna.

Autograph sessions with F1 drivers

The fans then used the one-off chance to get up close to the F1 drivers on Thursday afternoon. The drivers from seven teams spent time with visitors at the F1 village. It is only the Austrian Grand Prix where during the racing weekend virtually all the Formula 1 stars are available for signing autographs. The top stars from Mercedes, Ferrari and Infiniti Red Bull Racing will also give the public the chance to experience meeting the drivers in person for once on Saturday between 17:45 and 18:15 at the concert ground in front of the Red Bull Ring.

Big names at opening press conference

Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Nico Hülkenberg – six drivers were there to answer questions for the international media at the opening press conference for the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2015 on Thursday. Last year’s winner at the Red Bull Ring, Nico Rosberg from Team Mercedes AMG Petronas, seemed focused, saying: “I am not thinking of what has happened, for me it is always the next race that counts. It is wonderful to be back at the Red Bull Ring, and it is definitely going to be another superb weekend.” One of his biggest rivals, fellow German Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari, is keeping his feet on the ground, saying “Our opponents are Mercedes again, of course. We need to remain realistic. To beat Lewis and Nico, everything has to be perfect.” Daniel Ricciardo, who is contesting his second home race for the Infiniti Red Bull Racing team, is ready for a battle and says: “We have a hard piece of work ahead of us. I will give my best, of course, and try to get the most out of the weekend in Austria as possible.”

120,000 spectators expected

The engines are to start on Friday at the Red Bull Ring for the biggest sporting event of the year in Austria. The drivers of Formula 1 (free practice), GP2 (practice & qualifying) and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup (free practice) will make their first laps of the racing circuit and give the fans the full first-class motorsport experience. Over the weekend the locals will be supporting the Infiniti Red Bull Racing team in their home race along with a few Austrian drivers. Rene Binder will be giving his all in GP2, just like Philipp Eng in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. For this year’s Grand Prix weekend, Projekt Spielberg is expecting over 120,000 spectators in total. There is already a superb atmosphere at the campsites. The motorsport fans will continue to head to the circuit in even greater numbers on Friday, Saturday and on Sunday, above all. All the information on the easy ways of getting there – for instance Park & Bike – can be found HERE.
