Formula 1 Legends let their turbo engines roar again

There were goose bumps galore for around 95,000 fans last year as Formula 1 made its comeback to Austria, with the Legends Parade making for a reunion on the track with all the living Austrian former drivers of the racing series. There will be an encore a year later, as international superstars appear alongside local motorsport heroes Niki Lauda and Gerhard Berger in the Alpine land on 21 June to rekindle memories of great moments in Formula 1 history. The 2015 Legends Parade will see the famous faces of Alain Prost and Jean Alesi on their racing outfits again. They can’t wait to race around the Red Bull Ring with legendary cars from the turbo era of the 1980s and leave the circuit trembling with the incomparable sound, and the immense power, of the most formidable Formula 1 cars of all time. Spielberg is adding a crowning delight to a top weekend of motor racing in an event which is sure to delight big motorsport fans along with everyone else!

F1 stars with the huge horsepower of the turbo era. They may come from different parts of the world, have grown up in different cultures, but they speak the same language – the language of racing. They are united by a tremendous passion for motorsport and a particular love of the racing cars of their era. On Sunday 21 June at 12:40, at the Legends Parade at the 2015 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Austria in Spielberg, the international stars of Formula 1’s yesteryear are to race around the Red Bull Ring with cars from a truly extraordinary era. Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger, Alain Prost, Pierluigi Martini and Jean Alesi can all describe the turbo era of the 1980s as their glory days. With engines of up to 1400 horsepower and the indescribably powerful roar of their engines, these cars defined a decade that for many motor sport enthusiasts is still the golden era of Formula 1.

A decade of motorsport history brought together in Spielberg. Who would have imagined they would get the chance to see the big Formula 1 stars of the past back on the track in the cars of the time? The return of F1 to Austria at the Red Bull Ring has made it possible. The Legends Parade is set to be an emotional highlight of the racing weekend in Spielberg again this year, with Alain Prost & Co. bringing the incomparable racing sound of the turbo era to life again, along with all the magic of Formula 1 of the 80s. The historic cars can also be admired at the F1 village. Some of them are the cars that the drivers battled over the world’s circuits in back then. Cars that the drivers still feel a deep attachment too – Gerhard Berger, for instance, is to drive the Ferrari in which he took his legendary win in Monza in 1988, just a month after the death of Enzo Ferrari. “Driving in this car was the absolute highlight for me of last year’s Austrian Grand Prix, of course,” says the Austrian former driver, who competed through the entire turbo era: “as a driver, you felt in these extremely powerful cars like you were riding a cannonball! The power delivery was brutal. We completed entire races with just one hand on the steering wheel, while we changed gears with the other hand. Our feet were working away on the three pedals like they were a piano. You really had to boss it to handle to power.” The Legends Parade on 21 June will give Lauda the chance to rev the McLaren engine from 1984 in which he won his third world title and became the only Austrian to win his home grand prix. Another world-title winning car will be in action in the shape of Alain Prost’s McLaren MP4 from 1985.
