From Canada to the alps - The Formula 1 circus in heading to austria

The return of Formula 1 was the sporting highlight of the year for 2014 in Austria. The “Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich” in Spielberg earned international acclaim and plenty of praise from the teams. The fans were enthralled. For four days, first-class racing action and a comprehensive side programme was offered at and around the Red Bull Ring, with the Murtal valley brimming with excitement during the time. The unique motorsport event with the festival atmosphere, which is accompanied by typical Austrian hospitality, will this year again accomplish what it did so well last year. Less than two weeks after the Canadian Grand Prix, the Red Bull Ring is to open its gates to the motorsport highlight of the year!

Formula 1 festival with over 200,000 fans. 95,000 spectators were at the race day of the 2014 Austrian Grand Prix, with over 200,000 fans coming to Spielberg over the entire weekend. Red, white and red Austrian flags were on display as far as the eye could see, along with a unique side programme to make the comeback of Formula 1 to the country last year a real festival. There was entertainment and action centred around the elite racing series, with visitors treated to a Legends Parade of former Formula 1 drivers, an autograph hour at the F1 village with all the current drivers, along with concerts in front of the gates of the Red Bull Ring. There simply could not have been a better backdrop to the 2014 “Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich”, which was also the first home race for Infiniti Red Bull Racing. Everything that made the weekend of Grand Prix action so special last year will again leave fans and teams captivated in the 2015 season’s eighth race. With the Grand Prix of Canada over, all the eyes of the world of motorsport are being cast to Spielberg in Austria. A quick look back at last year’s events will whet the appetite for what awaits in less than two weeks.

It wasn’t only the winner who was beaming with joy. For four days, Formula 1 took over Spielberg in June 2014, with the race weekend culminating in an emotional Sunday that saw Nico Rosberg racing to a win after 71 exciting laps. Rosberg, Hamilton and Bottas then lifted the winner’s trophy created by Austrian artist Jos Pirkner into the air and beamed with joy from the podium – as did tens of thousands of fans, numerous celebrities, the entire Murtal valley and whole country of Austria. “Thank you very much to all the fans. It was a fantastic weekend. I could even feel the atmosphere in the car, you’re the best,” said a delighted Rosberg. Susie Wolff struck the same note, saying: “It was a super, super weekend here in Spielberg. That was Formula 1 at its best.” Bernie Ecclestone was also overjoyed, saying: “It is unbelievable what has been set up here. There was great excitement from the fans. As long as Dietrich Mateschitz wants to, we will race here.” There is again a great sense of anticipation for Infiniti Red Bull Racing for their second home race this year as the sport returns to the unique setting around the magnificent voestalpine wing.

Formula 1 legends. As the world awaited the race on Sunday there was one highlight after another. Spectators cheered on Austrian Formula 1 legends Helmut Marko, Dieter Quester, Niki Lauda, Hans Binder, Gerhard Berger, Alexander Wurz and Patrick Friesacher in their original cars from four decades of racing in the Legends Parade at Red Bull Ring – while legendary Austrian commentator Heinz Prüller presented the race on TV. “I had so much fun; that was a super idea,” said a laughing Lauda, who clearly enjoyed his laps. Sebastian Vettel, who completed the Drivers Parade in Lederhosen just like team-mate Dani Ricciardo, even said: “Without exaggerating now, that was one of the best weekends that I have ever experienced.” On 21 June, the Legends Parade will be held directly before the “Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2015”, with eight international Formula 1 megastars warming up the race track with original racing cars from the turbo era of the 1980s - including Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger, Nelson Piquet, Alain Prost, Pierluigi Martini, Jean Alesi, Riccardo Patrese and Christian Danner.
