Get to the Formula 1 in record time - Travel to Spielberg

Fans from all over Austria and neighbouring countries are to flock to the Murtal valley from 7 to 9 July again for the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich. There might be delays on the main transport routes for those travelling from a distance due to some roadworks here and there.  There are a variety of options for making a pleasant journey, with public transport recommended, if possible. The bus and train, in particular, offer attractive alternatives to taking your own car.

Getting to Spielberg from any direction

On the 2017 Formula 1 weekend, the approach roads to the Red Bull Ring along with most of the main transport routes in Austria are fully open. Due to the expected heavy traffic and with some road works (A9/Selzthaltunnel, A9/Tunnel Wald, S6/St. Marein). If travelling in your own vehicle, you should travel as early as possible and use all available seats if you can. All the information and tips on getting to the Red Bull Ring can be found here!

Early arrival recommended

Projekt Spielberg recommends arriving before 07:30. F1 fans can reach the Red Bull Ring coming from the St. Michael junction along the S36 Murtal road, with options for exiting the road at Knittelfeld-West and Zeltweg-East – or if coming from Klagenfurt, via the Zeltweg-West exit. Visitors should then follow the traffic management system and instructions of organisers at the circuit. Depending on the colour of their F1 ticket, visitors will be directed all the way from the motorway to the closest car park – which will be within walking distance of the circuit. With the Spielberg app acting a loyal travel companion there are numerous advantages when it comes to arriving at the circuit. The app allows users to calculate their arrival route, and when you leave the circuit, the Find my Car feature will help you to find where you parked your car or motorcycle in a matter of seconds – as you want to use all your precious time at the Red Bull Ring for as many thrilling experiences as possible, after all! All the information can be found here!

Taking the train or the bus to the Formula 1

The closest train station to the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2017 is Knittelfeld. Connections from Graz, Wien, Linz, Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Villach, as well as all the information on departure times can be found here! Free Spielberg shuttle buses are also being provided from Knittelfeld train station and from Judenburg bus station to near to the Red Bull Ring. From the shuttle terminal you can walk to the circuit in just a few minutes. The shuttle buses are running from Friday to Sunday between 08:00 and 20:00 at regular intervals. A night shuttle service is to also operate between 20:00 and 24:00. Postbus (timetables on www.postbus.at) and Eventbus are also offering coach trips especially for the Formula 1 weekend from across Austria, with over 200 places to board – details on www.eventbus.eu

Camping for real F1 fans

Several campsites can be found within a short walk from the Red Bull Ring. Formula 1 fans can be sure of always being close to the action there just a few steps away from the track. Those choosing to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday are sure to have a trouble-free arrival to the campsites and free choice of pitch. To help distribute campers around the sites as well as possible on Thursday, they are to be led along the S36 Murtal road by LED direction screens.  For the Pink, Green, Purple, Yellow and Orange campsites, the Knittelfeld West motorway exit is recommended. Those staying at the Blue and Red campsites should turn off at Zeltweg West, however. You can enter the campsites at any time of day on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Due to the expected heavy traffic on Friday, however, arrival before 10:00 is strongly recommended, and before 09:00 on Saturday. Campers can depart after 20:00 on Sunday. More information on reservations and campsite rules can be found here!

Taking the aerial route

The Hinterstoisser airfield in Zeltweg has been made especially available for civilian use for the 2017 Grand Prix weekend. Anyone interested can gain further information by email to anmeldung@airbaserampservice.org. Also throughout the 2017 F1 weekend, Wucher Helicopter is coordinating helicopter flights as well as airport and hotel transfers. The heliport is located very close to the Red Bull Ring.
