The spectacular ride from Marc Márquez at the Hahnenkamm

The reigning MotoGP World Champion atop his bike, the most legendary downhill run in the Skiing World Cup and lots of spikes make for an unbelievable ride. It’s true: Marc Márquez went where no-one has gone before and blasted his machine up the famous Hahnenkamm peak. Following Formula 1 ace Max Verstappen’s performance last year, he thus brought the premier motorcycle class to the Kitzbühel Alps after having inspected the course with Austria’s top TV skiing expert, Armin Assinger, who admitted: “When I did my first race here, I was scared shitless!”

Full throttle up the mountain

Usually, only hardened ski racers like Max Franz or the last year’s winner Peter Fill from Italy dare to tackle the run’s famous Mausefalle, Steilhang, Hausbergkante or Traverse sections. Undeterred, Marc Márquez took on the challenge and raced his thoroughbred motorcycle up the mountain, a mere few hundred metres uphill from the infamous Mausefalle section! “Keeping the bike under control was tough but I’m young and love to test my skills in crazy challenges,” the Spanish MotoGP World Champion, who was visibly thrilled, declared. “We greatly enjoyed this opportunity and after a few attempts, we knew what we could achieve,” said Márquez, who took a while to gradually get a feeling for the surface of the “excellently prepared slope.”

Franky Zorn and a barrage of spikes

A true motorsports legend made sure that the Spaniard’s bike was finding enough grip: Ice speedway racing expert Franky Zorn from Saalfelden equipped the World Champion’s bike with the right spikes – and it worked like a dream! “I was able to push hard and got great feedback. The grip was phenomenal and I could even do wheelies,” an excited Márquez exclaimed after his run.

2017’s biggest show at the Red Bull Ring

Fans can see Marc Márquez in his natural environment from 11 to 13 August, 2017 at the Red Bull Ring where he will put on a big show together with all-time great Valentino Rossi, last year’s winner Andrea Iannone or Dani Pedrosa during the "NeroGiardini Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich 2017". Enthusiasts from Austria will furthermore witness the initial home race of the country’s first MotoGP team, when Red Bull KTM Factory Racing comes home to the cheers of their loyal crowd.
