Mourning the loss of our friend Nicky Hayden

Nicky Hayden, who was fatally injured in a road accident on May 17, was a true champion, a spirited racer who fought hard and was highly respected by all his fellow riders.

Off the track, he was a popular character and a true gentleman of the sport. As our first world champion, Nicky will always have a special place in the Red Bull family.

The words of his brother Tommy beautifully express a memory through which everyone within the Red Bull family can take great comfort:

“Although this is obviously a sad time, we would like everyone to remember Nicky at his happiest – riding a motorcycle. He dreamed as a kid of being a pro rider and not only achieved that, but also managed to reach the pinnacle of his chosen sport in becoming World Champion. We are all so proud of that. Apart from these ‘public’ memories, we will also have many great and happy memories of Nicky at home in Kentucky, in the heart of the family. We will all miss him terribly."

We send Tommy, Nicky’s fiancée Jackie, his parents Earl and Rose, his siblings Jenny, Kathleen and Roger, his wider family and friends and his team-mates in the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team our deepest condolences at this incredibly sad time

Rest – and ride – in peace Nicky.
