Red Bull Ring is celebrating its seventh birthday and 2017 once again boasts an extraordinary motor sports programme in the shade of the Spielberg. With the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2017 and the NeroGiardini Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich, two top-tier classes of motor sports make a triumphant return to the Styrian Mur Valley. Apart from Formula 1 and MotoGP, fans can look forward to breath-taking action in the series DTM, FIA European Truck Racing Championship, ADAC GT Masters, European Le Mans Series and Histo Cup. Furthermore, modern folk music will once again be performed on the stage of Spielberg Music Festival.
Following the traditional opening on Josefimarkt (1 & 2 April), the Histo Cup is given the honours to officially inaugurate the racing season at Red Bull Ring from 21 to 23 April. By the way, this will only be one of two races in the 2017 season. In the form of the Bosch Race from 1 to 3 September, the series’ finale will also be held at the Spielberg.
The next season highlight awaits fans from 12 to 14 May, when the really big machines enter the race track: The Truck Race Trophy brings heavyweight racing to the “Spielberg Truckers’ Festival”. The FIA European Truck Racing Championship brings massive engines to Red Bull Ring. The festivities will once again include the Trucker Camp, parades and much more.
The “League of Supercars”, the ADAC GT Masters, will stop in Styria from 9 to 11 June. True dream cars from Audi, Bentley, BMW, Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Mercedes or Porsche will once more show what they can do. For many local drivers and their fans, this furthermore means: Home race! Including open paddock and autograph sessions.
Roughly one month later, it’s time to welcome the fastest men on four wheels to Austria, when the Formula 1 invites fans to the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich 2017 and a “hands-on motor sports festival”. Besides the stars of the Red Bull Racing team, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, as well as vice champion Lewis Hamilton, all drivers expect to experience a wild ride on the Red Bull Ring. Thereby, the fans can get as close to their idols as nowhere else in the world. Autograph sessions, Red Carpet, Public Pit Lane Walk, Legends Parade, open-air concerts, stunt and air shows and much more promise a unique experience and an outstanding event for the entire family! Children under the age of 14 are admitted free of charge if accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket and the Family Area offers a separate space for parents with children.
After Formula 1, lovers of smoking tires are treated to a special motor sports experience from 21 to 23 July: The European Le Mans Series will showcase long-distance motor sports of the highest order. During the Four Hours of the Red Bull Ring, drivers will fight for victory in three classes at the same time. Overtaking manoeuvres and finest racing are guaranteed.
Friends of two-wheeled action finally get their money’s worth from 11 to 13 August, when the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich 2017 lights up the Spielberg. MotoGP celebrated its triumphant comeback to Austria in 2016. In fact, the race at the Red Bull Ring was named Race of the Year. More than 215,000 fans, more than at any other race of the season, turned the Spielberg into a carnival. 2017 promises yet another memorable spectacle and furthermore, a historic home race: For the first time in history, an Austrian team, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, will compete for glory.
Shortly thereafter, from 23 to 27 August, the engines will be turned off for a little while and music is given centre stage. To be more precise, modern folk music.
