Stephanie Halm takes win in third race

Magnificent sunshine greeted the fans and drivers for the Truck Race Trophy on Mother’s Day in Spielberg. The third race of the weekend was won by female truck racer Stephanie Halm, who saw off the challenge of reigning European Champion Jochen Hahn to take her first win of the season. But Hahn still had plenty to celebrate after he triumphed in the fourth and final race of the weekend. There was bad luck for local hero Markus Altenstrasser (AUT): the rear axle on his truck failed in the Race Three, forcing him to pit and retire after just two laps. The truck couldn’t be repaired in time for the final race of the day and weekend.

Stephanie Halm keeps cool in third race

Stephanie Halm had proved that she meant business during Saturday’s races at the Red Bull Ring and, on Sunday, the German took first Pole Position of her career. She held the lead at the start and proceeded to take a hard-fought win when the race was red flagged two laps from the end following an incident in the mid-pack. Halm lead from the off until the race came to an early end: “I was under a lot of pressure today. I knew if I wanted to win I couldn’t make any mistakes,” said Helm who held Jochen Hahn at bay and didn’t seem to have any answers to the questions the driver put on him. Austrian Markus Altenstrasser had to retire after just two laps due to a technical failure. “Something had jammed in the rear axle and I had no acceleration,” said the disappointed driver. There was not enough time until the start of the fourth race to get the truck going again.

Jochen Hahn triumphs in final heat

The grid was made of reversed positions from P1 to P8 for the second race of the day and this triggered another action-packed event. The top drivers fought for the front from the middle of the pack with Stephanie Halm staging a spectacular charge from P8 on the grid the grid to P3 by lap 3. But she had to retire one lap later after she lost brake power. Hahn moved up place by place and ultimately inherited the lead when Adam Lacko (CZE) and his compatriot Sascha Lenz collided shortly before the chequered flag. “I waited to see what would happen in front of me as it was a hard fight,” said the four-time European Champion who took two wins and a second place in the season opener at the Red Bull Ring.

David vs. Goliath on Track

The world’s fastest big rig “The Iron King” brought the massive weekend’s action to a close with a show-stopping performance. High speed record holder Boije Ovebrink thrilled the fans gathered around the Red Bull Ring when he drove the massive 2,400HP and 6,000NM Volvo truck at a top speed of 276km/h. The Swede took on a Formula Renault 2.0 car taken from the Projekt Spielberg collection in a drag race. The David vs Goliath battle was undecided after two laps.
