Viñales fastest rider in qualifying for Austrian GP

Miller and Quartararo complete front row, Espargaró lingering behind in 5th place

It wasn‘t Ducati, and it wasn’t Pol Espargaró – who had been so strong in practice. It was Yamaha in the shape of Maverick Viñales who got the upper hand in qualifying at the Red Bull Ring and will start on pole position in the Austrian GP on Sunday. Just behind him will be Australia’s Jack Miller plus Fabio Quartararo, who has won two races already this season. After KTM performed strongly in free practice with Pol Espargaró, the Spaniard goes into the race within striking distance of the front in fifth. Excitement and top-class action on two wheels is a certainty!

Views of the top 3:

Maverick Viñales (ESP/Yamaha):

“I gave everything to get on the front row, and I am really happy to have got the pole. We made great progress between FP4 and qualifying. The bike is top, and we now just need to pick out the right tyres!”

Jack Miller (AUS/Ducati):

“I had problems in the last sector. I lost the rear going into turn 9. We have to solve that by tomorrow. If the back tyres wear out so quickly in this spot, it will be difficult over the race distance.”

Fabio Quartararo (FRA/Yamaha):

“We made big changes to the bike. It is fantastic to be on the front row again, and I hope that I’m still there at the end of the race!”
